GROSSET
& DUNLAP Reprint
of the 1908 Bobbs Merril Edition. 342 pages, plus ads.
THE VOLUME:
The book is in VERY GOOD.
condition. Predominantly very clean and bright boards with
gilt accents, also very bright. A little soiling along the top
and lower edge of the upper board and an unusual stain/flaw on
lower spine, which has erased part of the publisher's name, but
without seeming to weaken the fabric in any way (not vulnerable
to fraying, not thinning, etc.) Please refer to photo.
Text pages are also predominantly
very clean. No writing or inscriptions. Some light foxing on the
inner boards and end papers, and on the outer endge of the
textblock—but without extending onto text surfaces. The hinges
are intact and firm. The binding is tight and nearly perfectly
square. (The spine leans very, very slightly—almost
imperceptibly.)
THE
DUSTJACKET: A
NEW FACSIMILE copy
of the scarce Howard Chandler Christy jacket, which sold
with this edition, made from a scan of an original in very good
condition, printed on one sheet of acid-free paper by an archival
inkjet printer (80 yr. inks), and preserved in archival plastic.
THE STORY:
The flaps on this dust jacket
are blank as issued, so I'm afraid I have no idea what the story
is about. However, the vibrant color illustrations by Christy
certainly suggest a very intriguing story.
