This is a truly
beautiful book in my opinion with a stunning dust jacket.
Wonderful illustrations by Charles Dana Gibson, many
two-page layouts as shown.
THE
VOLUME: The
book is in VERY GOOD
condition, probably the nicest copy I've seen of this title.
Gilt titles on both upper board and spine are still quite
bright. Faint soiling (or age-darkening) of bright-dark red
boards. One very small faded spot on rear board. The rear
board's corners are very lightly bumped. Front board corners
still pretty sharp. Not much edgewear anywhere. Only very, very
slight wear to tips of spine and board corners.
The textblock feels very solid
and both hinges look tight and strong, and wholly intact. The
binding is square.
No writing anywhere!! A pretty
amazing volume. The wonderful Gibson illustrations are a
delight.
THE
DUSTJACKET: A
NEW FACSIMILE copy
of the Charles Dana Gibson jacket, which sold with this edition,
made from a scan of an original in good condition, printed on
one sheet of acid-free paper by an archival inkjet printer (80
yr. inks), and preserved in archival plastic.
THE
STORY: This
Robert Chambers' story is a romance with a lot of depth and
complex characters. The 28 sets of illustrations by Charles Dana
Gibson certainly added tremendously to my own enjoyment while
reading it. Robert Chambers and Gibson attended the same art
academy where they became good friends. Robert Chambers' story
THE COMMON LAW was both illustrated by and dedicated to Charles
Dana Gibson.
