think.)
THE VOLUME:
Lovely slightly brown-toned llustrations by Arthur I. Keller.
Front board has window motif with blind-embossed leaves.
THE DUSTJACKET:
A NEW FACSIMILE
copy of the very
scarce dust jacket which sold with this edition, made from a scan
of an original in good condition, printed on one sheet of
acid-free paper by an archival inkjet printer (80 yr. inks), and
preserved in archival plastic.
The original of this dust jacket is
exceedingly rare. The gold-toned areas were actually a bronzed
metallic ink. I did my best to incorporate scanned elements of
that metal surface in order to make my facsimile as accurate as
possible. It's such a handsome jacket that I really regret not
being able to read the artist's signature. (If anyone reading
this does know, please share it with me.)
THE STORY:
I read this story myself and
really enjoyed it. I'm definitely a Mary Roberts Rinehart fan. I
love the way she integrates such humor into her mysteries. This
book is no exception. Ingenius, surprising, and fun. A lawyer
undertakes to help a young woman whose father has suddenly
disappeared under very mysterious circumstances.
